Effect of Computerized Cognitive Training on Cognitive Function, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living and Quality of Life in Patients with Mild Dementia

Abstract
Objective : The objective of this clinical study was to investigate the effect of computerized cognitive therapy on cognitive function, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and quality of life (QoL) in patients with mild dementia.

Methods : This study was Fifteen patients with mild dementia were assigned each to either the experimental or control group. The therapy was performed in a convalescent hospital in Daejeon for 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

Results : The computerized cognitive therapy significantly improved cognitive function, IADL and QoL in patients with mild dementia. As for the relationship among cognitive function, IADL and QoL, IADL was correlated with both basic IQ and executive function as well as with QoL.

Conclusion : In conclusion, this study demonstrated the significant effect of computerized cognitive therapy on cognitive function, instrumental activities of daily living and quality of life in patients with mild dementia. These findings suggest that computerized cognitive therapy is an effective intervention for improving cognitive function in patients with mild dementia.
